asked Jan 30, 2014 in Mobiles & Tablets by Vishki (10,550 points)
I have joikuspot installed on my symbian phone. When I try to use the wifi hotspot from joikuspot, some devices are able to access the internet but some devices fail to detect the wifi zone. What is the reason?

There are two kinds of WiFi access points, ad-hoc and infrastructure. Joikuspot on Nokia Symbian creates an ad-hoc WiFi zone. Many devices do not work detect ad-hoc wifi zones, they need the wifi in infrastructure mode. This is the reason why some tablets and laptops fail to detect joikuspot hotspot.

It is a limitation of Symbian and it is not possible to create an infrastructure mode wifi hotspot in Symbian OS. Some devices that can not detect ad-hoc wifi zones are kindle, android devices, windows 8 computers. Android devices can be made to access ad-hoc zones but this needs rooting. Computers upto Windows 7 work with ad-hoc connections, but windows 8 does not recognize ad-hoc networks.
