Western Digital Data Lifeguard crashes

asked Jan 20, 2016 in PC by Vishki (10,550 points)
Western Digital Data Lifeguard hard disk check utility crashes on loading. Does not work even in compatibility mode for Windows 7/8.1/XP 32 and 64bit architectures. When I try to open Windlg.exe file, it just crashes.

Encountered this issue when I had a usb thumb drive attached to the system. Not knowing the issue, I tried compatibility modes for different operating systems without any luck.

Finally worked like a charm when the attached thumb drive(Sandisk Cruzer Blade 8gb) is removed. I think the tool tries to load details of the attached drives and it crashes(when it encounteres non WD drives?).

If you are facing the issue, remove any pen drives and memory cards attached to your pc and run the program. No need to use any compatibility mode(I have used it in Windows 8.1).

I'm not sure if the tool crashes even when it finds an internal non western digital drive. If you face this issue without any pendrives/memory cards attached, chances are that an internal non wd ssd or hdd is causing the issue. See if you can disable these drives from bios and check again.
