***I answered this question in two parts because of length limits please read two parts, Part A and Part B.

Works on Windows 10 too. Did not try but may work for some other Windows versions too.

Part A

I faced this problem after downloading the drivers from Ricoh website and here is what worked.

https://ricoh.co.in/downloads/

On proceeding further I ended up at the below url with the list of downloads

http://www.ricoh-ap.com/downloads/GetDriver.aspx?CID=2&pn=Aficio%u2122SP%20100&path=http://support.ricoh.com/bb/html/dr_ut_e/ra/model/sp_100/sp_100en.htm

It has files listed for all the supported operating systems. For Windows 8.1, it has the below two files.

  1. Smart Organizing Monitor, file name z66998L11.exe .
  2. DDST Printer Driver, file name z60660en.exe

Smart Organizing Monitor

This is printer monitoring tool, not really required but may come handy. It shows the printer status and total number of pages printed. It does not show the cartridge toner status as SP100 cartridge does not has such circuitry. It also has some other tools. If you are installing it, I think it is better to install it after the driver.

Installation is straight forward. Double clicking on the downloaded file unzips some folders/files to the selected location(in my case c:\temp). Navigate to the directory using file explorer. Inside the unzipped folder you can find setup.exe (c:\temp\z66998L11\UTILITY). Double click on setup.exe and installs the tool.

DDST Printer Driver is covered in Part B

Smart Organizing Monitor is covered in Part A

Part B

DDST Printer Driver

This is required for the printer to work. Double clicking on the downloaded file unzips some folders/files to the selected location(in my case c:\temp). Navigate to c:\temp\z60660en\DISK1. Remember this location as there is the required inf file we will use to install printer. There are no setup files here, there is a readme.html file which you can open in internet explorer or other browser and follow the instructions(I had a problem following these).

Steps:

  1. Goto "control panel", "devices and printers", click on "Add a printer" on the top.
  2. In the next screen, click "The printer that I want isn't listed".
  3. In the next screen select "Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings" and click "next".(Till here it is same as in readme. Proceeding further it asked for hostname/IP address which I had no idea. So I cancelled and repeated the steps a, b, c and proceeded as below.)
  4. In the next screen select "Use an existing port" and in the drop down box select "LPT1: (Printer Port)", click "Next"
  5. In the next screen it lists different manufacturers and printers below which you have "Have Disk…" button, now click on "Have Disk…"
  6. It opens a dialog where you have to browse or give the location of inf file(You remember it right? c:\temp\z60660en\DISK1). Browse to that folder, select "RMEGGDIM.inf" and click "Open". Then click "OK". (If you want to key in the full path, it depends on where you unzipped the files. In my case it is "c:\temp\z60660en\DISK1\RMEGGDIM.inf")
  7. Now select "RICOH" from Manufacturer and then "RICOH Aficio SP 100 DDST" from Printers. Click "Next".

After this the printer will be installed and you will get an option to print a test page. Complete the installation.

One problem I faced after this is, the installation is completed but when I connected the printer cable to the PC(I did the installation without connecting), it installed another printer. So I had two printers in devices and printers.

  1. RICOH Aficio SP 100 DDST
  2. Copy of RICOH Aficio SP 100 DDST

Printer a was always shown as available whether the printer is connected or not. Prints end up in queue but never print. Printer b was working.

To solve this

  1. Disconnected the printer.
  2. Right click on both the printers (a and b) in "Devices and Printers"
  3. Click on "Remove Device". The printers will be removed from your "Devices and Printers"
  4. Now connect the printer again.

Windows will now auto install the printer(it already knows the drivers for this printer now). You will have a one working "RICOH Aficio SP 100 DDST" in your "Devices and Printers"

That’s it.
